My wife, my youngest daughter and I just returned from a vacation with my in-laws in Branson, Missouri, where they own a timeshare.  There are lots of attractions that are geared toward our older citizens and many of the acts include wisecracks aimed at the geriatric visitors.  I can recall the last time we were there thinking “If I hear one more incontinence joke…”. While many of the elderly are able to laugh at the jokes leveled at their expense, I was not ready to surrender to aging quite so easily.

We made sure to avoid such acts and took the opportunity to seek out activities geared toward the youthful. TonyZipLining200x284 We had a great time riding the extreme go-karts and zip lining, which was described by my mother-in-law as activities “for young people”. I would say these are activities that are geared toward the youthful at heart.  I can’ t imagine that there is a man at any age who would look at riding a fast go-kart and think that it didn’t look like a fun activity.  I loved the zip lining as you can see in the photo.

I noticed that many of these activities could easily be enjoyed by people that were older, but generally were only taken advantage of by kids and very young adults.  In my opinion, because most people become less active for various reasons as they get older, they become prematurely physically unfit, and people as young as their mid-forties lack the confidence that would come with being fit.  Outside of chronic injuries and illness that could make it difficult or even impossible to keep physically fit, making the decision to stay healthy and fit will allow you to continue to participate in fun exciting activities even as you become older.  While I am in my fifties, I have heard of someone over eighty years young zip lining!
